Meet Jack

Jack is the newest addition to the Obergas household. He is a 17 week old giant schnauzer that I got two weeks ago. Fitz is two years plus and as you can see Jack is almost as big as him. The difference between the two is that Jack is an American coated Schnauzer (softer less likely to loose hair in clumps), Fitz is a German coated schnauzer (more wiry coat and tends to loose hair more often.) The thing about it is that Jack will be about 30-40 lbs bigger than my first boy. More pictures to come...

  1. Beautiful Giant boys! I have an American-coated boy and a German coated girl, and I much prefer the harsh coat. You'll know why when your dog runs through cockleburs! :^)

  2. Congrats on your new boy. They both look wunnerful.
Not to rain on your parade, but the common wisdom is that two dogs of the same gender have a good chance of being aggressive to each other once they're both adults. Maybe it can be minimized with training -or maybe you will just be lucky.
While I know of people who have to let their GSs out in shifts, to prevent fights, I also know of people whose pack of GSs all get along well.

Maybe you need to add a female to keep the boys in line.

As long as you are in charge from the start and the boys are inhibited from exercising some natural instincts, you should be OK. Will they both be neutered? That helps a lot. We have three giant males and had three females here for the last year. They are cute!

  4. I also have a Male altered chocolate lab and a Siamese male altered cat. Both Fitz and Jack are not going to be altered. I know this calms them down but I am experienced now more with Giants and I feel fully capable in training and maintaining the dominant role in the household. I plan on breeding both males in the future and hopefully one day find a female to bring into the family. Everyone thinks it is funny that I love these giants so much but I tell them that if they ever had one they would want one as well. I have always been a lab lover but these dogs fit my needs for protection where I live than does a lick your face lab. These boys protect me and are so cautios about everyone. I think it is their best trait!
